A Metal Gazebo for Winter

We lucky Brits are experiencing the driest, mildest winter weather so far in 2011, since records began. Rainfall is 60% lower than it was this time last year in some parts of the country and in the South; temperatures have reached up to 18 degrees. The trend in recent years is that UK winters are definitely getting warmer.

This may explain why our metal gazebo sale trends are on the up. The season has extended year on year and the fact is people are investing in their quality of life. The most depressing thing about winter for many of us is being forced to spend so much time indoors. We want fresh air in our lungs and sunlight on our faces, just because it’s a few degrees cooler, we shouldn’t have to stop enjoying our gardens.

The accompanying photographs are from a customer garden renovation in Ashtead, Surrey. They’ve recently installed our Paris Gazebo. The garden looks gorgeours! Their new gazebo’s entrance looks towards the pond and, whether it’s April, July or November, imagine the pleasure the owners will get from this!

If you use your gazebo or pergola in the winter months, we’d love to hear from you. Send in your pictures, or share any tips you may have to help others extend the life of their gardens.

Movember Moustachery at Metal Design Furniture

This being not only festive time but also time to support charities, we are doing our bit, too! In fact, we are already half-month into the Movember campaign and we have photos to show for it!

Movember is raising awareness about cancers that affect men. For the entire month of Movember each male participant must grow and groom a moustache. Ladies support the campaign by raising funds and seeking sponsorship for their men.

Last year, 112,000 people in the UK took part and raised a fantastic £11.7 million for male cancer charities.

Supporters must follow strict personal grooming rules, too! Joining the moustache to your side burns is forbidden, that’s considered a beard. Neither can the tash be joined to chin hair, that’s a goatee. And during Movember one must behave like a true country gentleman, too.

We at Metal Design Furniture are especially enjoying our co-director sporting his ‘dot and dash.’ Well, let’s see where we get by the end of the month.

Did you know, that gala parties to celebrate the moustache are being thrown throughout the country this month? At these celebrations, mo-growers can compete for a number of titles. This includes Best Mo in Character, Team Mo, Miss Movember (hm..) and the ultimate, Man of Movember 2011.

If you’d like to get involved or simply make a donation, you can do so by visiting

And whilst doing our bit for charity in this seasonal time we also had a fun photoshoot with some of our friends and colleagues at the end, see the photos below!
